What Happens When Chemicals React?
- Put on your safety goggles. Place 2 small spoonfuls of baking soda into a clear plastic cup.
- Holding the cup over a large bowl or sink, add about 125 mL of vinegar. Swirl the cup gently.
- Look at the material in the cup. What changes do you see? Feel the outside of the cup. What do you notice about the temperature?
- Carefully fan the air above the liquid toward you. What do you smell?
